In her book, The Key to a Loving Heart, Karen Mains includes a parable about the church entitled The Brawling Bride. The members started to develop division following different leaders. The words made complete mean to be perfectly joined together, like a jigsaw puzzle. There should be oneness of mind, no matter how long it takes. Now, in one verse he introduces to us the cure for these divisions (Verse17): For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom [literally, "wisdom of words"], lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. Paul says that he does not preach in cleverness of speech because the power of the gospel lies in the facts of the gospel, and not in any mans presentation of them. I find there are these tendencies right here in Peninsula Bible Church. 2 Corinthians But if it is to escape pressures and difficulties and problems in the congregation, then it is absolutely wrong and the worst thing he could do, because it sets before the watching world a false testimony concerning the church of Jesus Christ. Others bragged that they were followers of Peter (1 Corinthians 1:12). "One is your master; all of you are brothers," (Matthew 23:8 KJV). It is sad to see that our world appears just as divided today as it did back in the first century. Why? God only sees one fold, (John 10) and there is only one faith, one Lord, one baptism etc. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them; that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. (NKJV). They failed to take seriously the power of evil; their behavior caused divisions in the church and led to a lack of concern for other members. One of these influencing factors is consumerism which finds its way into even the way Christians think. In my opinion, this is one of the main reasons our churches are so split and why we act more like the world rather than more like Christ. There are some people who minister to us better than others, and it is only natural that we should listen to them and follow them.
